Installing the VDS Internet Streamer
Software and Initially Configuring a CDE
This chapter describes the initial installation of the Cisco VDS Internet Streamer Release 3.x, and 4.x
software application suite, and the initial configuration of a CDE.

If you received a new CDE 205/220/250/420/460/475 go to the “Launching a New CDE for the First
Time” section on page 4-1.
If you received a new CDE280, go to the “Launching a CDE280 for the First Time” section on page 4-3.
If you need to re manufacture a CDE for any reason, go to the “Re manufacturing a CDE” section on
page 4-14, and then go to “Launching a New CDE for the First Time” section on page 4-1.

Launching a New CDE for the First Time
When you receive a new CDE, the VDS-IS software is preloaded and the initial configuration is
complete. Perform the following steps to launch your VDS-IS for the first time:
To launch a CDE280 for the first time, see “Launching a CDE280 for the First Time” section on
page 4-3.
Step 1 Connect the cables to the CDE (see the “Making Physical Connections” section on page 3-37).
Step 2 Power up the CDE.
Step 3 Connect a terminal server serial port to the console to run the setup utility.
