Choosing How to Assign the Network Address
YoucanuseapermanentIPaddress(calledstaticIP)onanynetwork.AstaticIPaddressisstored
intheprinterandisenteredatthePC.TheadvantageofusingastaticIPaddressisthatthe
printeraddressdoesnotchange.
TouseDHCP,thenetworkconnectingthe
printerandPCmustsupportDHCP(DynamicHost
ConfigurationProtocol)andDNS(DomainNameSystem).DHCPusesaprinternamethatdoes
notchange,suchasPRINTER01,combinedwithanIPaddressthatcanchange.TheDHCPserver
keepstrackofthenetworkprinternameandthecurrentIPaddressfor
theprinter.Theprinteris
identifiedonthePCbyitsnetworkprintername.

IP Security Using a Printer Certificate (IPSec)
TosetupIPSecsecurityusingaprintercertificate,youneedtoobtaincertificatesfroma
certificateauthorityfortheprinterandforeachPCthatwillprinttoit.Thecertificatesmustbe
availablebeforesettingupIPSec.FormoreinformationaboutIPSecsecurity,searchWindows
helpfor“IPSEC.”
Tips
forSuccess
EachPCthatusestheprintermusthaveacertificateinstalledtousetheprinterafterIPSec
securityhasbeensetup.Ifthenetworkalreadyusescertificates,thePCislikelytohaveits
certificateinstalled.ThediagrambelowshowsthePC’scertificate,buttheproceduredoes
notdescribeit.
Theprintercertificatemustberequestedonceforeachprinter.Itmustbeanexportablekey,
andneedstobedownloadedonlyonce.
TheIPSecModeandIPSecTypevaluesdisplayedontheprinterLCDpanelareread‐only
settings.
