16. ROTO-STOP
®
VYA TYPE ONLY
CABLE ADJUSTMENT
1. Turn the fuel valve to the OFF position and disconnect
the spark plug cap.
2. Tip the mower on its right side (muffler side down) to
prevent:
• Fuel leakage.
• Engine oil from leaking out of the crankcase vent into
the air cleaner and onto the Roto-Stop assembly when
the mower is set back on its wheels.
3. Have an assistant engage and hold the Roto-Stop blade
control lever.
4. While continuing to hold the blade control lever, measure
the clearance between the ball plate indicator and the
brake plate as shown.
If adjustment is necessary:
a. Loosen the lock nut from the adjuster.
b. Tighten the cable by turning the adjuster as shown.
Turn the adjuster clockwise - distance decreases.
Turn the adjuster counterclockwise - distance
increases.
c. Tighten the lock nut and recheck the clearance.
INSPECTION
Before inspecting brake or clutch wear, it is important to
make sure the blade control lever free play is correct (See above procedure).
If any measurements are less than the service limit, replace
the driven disk and inspect the clutch spring (P. 4 -6
, P. 4-10).
If the clutch spring is not within specifications, replace the
clutch spring (P. 4 -7
).
BRAKE WEAR
With the blade control lever released, measure the distance
between the edge of the brake plate and the indicator.
