Installing the Switch 408
Sample Network Topologies
As a Segment Switch
In general, the Switch 408 is designed to be used as a desktop switch,
but it can also be used as a segment switch. That is, it can be used for
interconnecting network segments—simply connect the network
hubs that form those segments to the switch.
In the illustration above, two Ethernet hubs with PCs, printers, and
local servers attached, are both connected to a Switch 408. The
devices attached to the two hubs can now communicate with each
other through the switch. They can also all communicate with the
server that is connected to the switch. Make sure connections from
servers to the Switch 408 are at 100 Mbps to minimize network
congestion to the servers.
