Cables and Connectors
This appendix includes minimum pin-out information and specifica-
tions for cables that should be used with the Switch 408.
Twisted-Pair Cable/Connector
Pin-Outs
The RJ-45 ports (10 Mbps and 100 Mbps) on the Switch 408 have the
HP Auto-MDIX feature, which allows you to use either straight-
through or crossover twisted-pair cables for connections to any other
network device that has RJ-45 connectors.
These additional rules apply to the twisted-pair cabling:
All twisted-pair wires used must be twisted through the entire
length of the cable. The wiring sequence must conform to the
ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-B cable specification. See “Twisted-Pair Cable
Pin Assignments” later in this appendix for a listing of the signals
used on each pin.
Note
Incorrectly wired cabling is the most common cause of
problems for LAN communications. ProCurve recom-
mends that you work with a qualified LAN cable installer
for assistance with your cabling requirements.
