POST numeric codes and text messages
This section covers those POST errors that have numeric codes associated with them. The section also
includes some text messages that may be encountered during POST.
NOTE: The computer will beep once after a POST text message is displayed on the screen.
Control panel message Description Recommended action
002-Option ROM Checksum Error System ROM or expansion board option ROM
checksum.
1. Verify the correct ROM.
2. Flash the ROM if needed.
3. If an expansion board was recently added,
remove it to see if the problem remains.
4. Clear CMOS. (See Password security and
resetting CMOS on page 73.)
5. If the message disappears, there may be a
problem with the expansion card.
6. Replace the system board.
003-System Board Failure DMA or timers. 1. Clear CMOS. (See Password security and
resetting CMOS on page 73.)
2. Remove expansion boards.
3. Replace the system board.
005-Real-Time Clock Power Loss Invalid time or date in conguration memory.
RTC (real-time clock) battery may need to
be replaced.
Reset the date and time under Control Panel
(Computer Setup can also be used). If
the problem persists, replace the RTC battery.
See the Removal and Replacement section for
instructions on installing a new battery.
008–Microcode Patch Error Processor is not supported by the BIOS. 1. Upgrade BIOS to proper version.
2. Change the processor.

Memory error during POST execution of
the Management Engine (ME) BIOS Extensions
option ROM.
1. Reboot the computer.
2. Unplug the power cord, re-seat
the memory modules, and reboot
the computer.
3. If the memory conguration was recently
changed, unplug the computer, restore
the original memory conguration, and
reboot the computer.
4. If the error persists, replace the system
board.
00A-Product Information Not Valid The product information programmed into
the system board is missing or invalid.
Use Computer Setup to update this information.
00B-MEBx Module did not checksum correctly Memory error during POST execution of
the Management Engine (ME) BIOS Extensions
option ROM.
1. Reboot the computer.
