Joining
If
you
want
to
sew
seams
with
the
seam
allowance
pressed
open,
press
the
push-button
for
“Joining”.
The
machine
will
automatically
select
the
correct
stitch.
The
following
applies
generally:
Non-stretch
fabrics
(I),
leather
and
vinyl
are
sewn
with
straight
stitching.
Both
light
and
other
stretch
fab
rics
(2)
are
sewn
with
stretch
stitch.
When
you
have
joined
the
fabric
pieces,
press
the
seam
allowances
open.
To
obtain
an
even
seam
allow
ance,
use
one
of
the
markings
on
the
such
plate
or
the
edge
guide.
It
is
usually
best
to
simultaneously
join
and
overcast
stretch
fabrics.
This
is
described
on
page
23.
Overcasting
It
is
necessary
to
overcast
the
seam
allowance
on
some
fabrics
to
prevent
fraying.
It
is
easier
to
overcast
the
edges
of
each
fabric
piece
separately
before
sewing
the
garment
together.
Press
the
push-button
for
“Overcasting”.
The
machine
will
automatically
select
the
correct
stitch.
Generally
the
following
applies:
Three-step
zig-zag
(2)
is
the
most
commonly
used
overcasting
stitch
and
the
machine
automatically
selects
the
stitch
width
and
length
according
to
the
characteris
tics
of
the
fabric.
It
is
not
normally
necessary
to
overcast
leather
or
vinyl
but
if
so,
use
ordinary
zig-zag
(1).
Trim
the
edges
belore
overcasting.
Be
sure
the
needle
covers
the
edge
of
the
labric
entirely.
With
the
basic
settilig,
allow
the
labric
edge
to
run
along
the
right
inside
edge
of
the
presser
foot.
Presser
foot
J
is
fit
ted
with
a
pin
on
the
right-hand
side
to
prevent
the
fabric
from
puckering.
