Before
starting
to
hem,
test
sew
a
few
stitches
on
a
scrap
of
the
fabric
and
compare
the
results
with
the
illustrations.
The
picture
to
the
left
shows
how
the
stitches
fail
to
reach
the
fold
line
of
the
fabric.
A
check
should
be
made
that
the
fold
line
of
the
fabric
rides
in
the
groove
and,
if
necessary,
increase
the
stitch
width
slightly
by
pressing
the
+
button
under
the
right
digital
indicator.
The
center
picture
illustrates
how
the
stitch
width
has
been
increased
too
much,
leading
to
an
excessive
“bite”,
resulting
in
the
stitches
being
visible
from
the
right
side.
If
this
is
the
case,
reduce
the
stitch
width
slightly.
The
right
picture
shows
a
correctly
sewn
blindstitched
hem.
The
needle
catches
one
thread
oniy
of
the
folded
edge.
Basting
Machine
basting
facilitates
trying
on
the
garment.
Press
the
push-button
for
“Basting”.
The
machine
will
automatically
select
straight
stitch,
stitch
length
5
or 6,
and
decrease
the
upper
thread
tension.
The
basting
thread
is
simple
to
remove
later.
Pin
the
pieces
of
fabric
together,
inserting
the
pins
at
right
angles
to
the
seam.
Then
sew
the
seam,
removing
each
pin
as
you
come
to
it.
If
you
are
careful,
use
fine
pins
and
relatively
long
stitches,
you
can
sew
right
across
the
pins.
However,
you
run
the
risk
of
blunting
the
needle
if
it
strikes
against
a
pin.
