Edging
An
effective
edging
can
be
produced
with
the
arch
stitch.
The
illustration
shows
this
stitch
used
on
a fine
stretch
fabric,
where
pearl
cotton
has
been
sewn
on
the
edge.
It
is also
suitable
for
tricot.
The
shell
stitch
will
produce
a picot
edge
on
fine
fab
rics.
Increase
the
thread
tension
by
one
or
two
numbers,
if
necessary.
A
scallop
edge
is also
a
very
attractive
edging.
The
ocean-wave
stitch
can
be
sewn
a
bit
from
the
edge
and
trimmed
along
the
stitching.

A
hemstitch
effect
can
be
achieved
by
some
of
the
stitches
on
cassette
2
when
sewing
in
linen
and
similar
fabrics that
are
not
too
closely
woven.
Single
hemstitch
can
be
used
when
hemming
a
table
cloth,
for
example.
Double
hemstitch
produces
two
rows
of
holes
and
makes
an
excellent
narrow
border.
If
a
wider
border
is required,
sew
several
rows
of
double hemstitch
and
match
the
rows
of
stitches.
Four
rows
of
double
hemstitch
have
been
sewn in
the
illustra
tion and
single
hemstitch
has
been
used
to
make
the
hem.
A
wing
needle
used
with
the
Point
de
Paris
hemstitch
further
accentuates
the
look
of
hemstitching.
