v If the SAL entry does not list any cable FRUs (BUSCBLX is not in the part number field), then exchange
the failing items listed in the SAL entry by following the normal service procedures for those FRUs. See
the Locations page for the frame on which you are working.
This ends the procedure.
v If the SAL entry has cable FRU(s) (BUSCBLX in the part number field) listed, but the loop number,
frame ID, and port label are not all listed with the cable FRU, go to the Determine the HSL port label
(See page 459) procedure below.
Determine the HSL port label:
Retrieve the following information:
v Loop number. The loop number is displayed in hexadecimal format as the four leftmost digits of word 7
in the SRC. Convert the loop number to decimal format (as it is shown in HSM) using the “DSA
breakdown” on page 63 table (found in the Bus PIP overview). Record both the hexadecimal and
decimal formats of the loop number. If the loop is an internal loop on a Model 270, 800, or Model 810,
then, record ″Internal″.
v Frame ID. The frame ID is displayed in hexadecimal format as the four leftmost digits of word 5 of the
SRC. You must convert the frame ID to decimal format to match what is displayed on the Display Panel
of that frame. Record both the hexadecimal and decimal formats of the frame ID.
Note: A frame ID of 0000 is valid at this point in the procedure.
v Port number indicator. The port number indicator is the four rightmost digits of word 5 of the SRC.
Record the port number indicator.
Use the frame ID and port number indicator in the table below to find the HSL Port Label. If you are
referenced to the ″Converting From HSL Loop Number to NIC’s FRU and Port Labels on the System Unit,
Primary I/O Unit or Processor Unit″ table, the failing item is in a system unit. You will need the HSL loop
number to determine the failing item.

v Models 270, 800, 810, 820, 830, and SB2:
– On loop 256: The port identified is an internal connection from the
Network Interface Controller (NIC) to the embedded HSL I/O Bridge in
the system unit. Exchange the NIC using symbolic FRU “SICNTRL” on
page 448. If that does not correct the problem, exchange the HSL I/O
Bridge in the system unit using symbolic FRU “SIIOADP” on page 450.
This
ends the procedure.
– Other than loop 256 use: ″x0″
v
Model 825: The port is internal. Replace the system unit backplane. See
Locations - Model 825 for location and service information.
This
ends the procedure.
v Models 840 and SB3 use: ″x0″
v Models 870 and 890 use: ″x0″ and determine the correct NIC FRU. See
“Converting from HSL loop number to port labels on the system unit or
processor tower” on page 72.
