16.2Checking the engine oil level

The engine oil level can be checked when the engine is cold or warm.
Preliminary work
– Stand the motorcycle upright on a horizontal surface.

Condition
The engine is cold.
– Check the engine oil level.
The engine oil level is up to the middle A of the level viewer.
» If the engine oil is not up to the middle of the level viewer:
– Add engine oil. ( p. 78)
Condition
The engine is at operating temperature.
– Check the engine oil level.
Info
After switching off the engine, wait one minute before checking the
level.
The engine oil is at a level between the middle A and upper edge B of the
level viewer.
» If the engine oil is not up to the middle A of the level viewer:
– Add engine oil. ( p. 78)
16.3Changing the engine oil and oil filter, cleaning the oil screen x
Warning
Danger of scalding Engine oil and gear oil get very hot when the motorcycle is ridden.
– Wear appropriate protective clothing and safety gloves. In case of burns, rinse immediately with lukewarm water.
Warning
Environmental hazard Hazardous substances cause environmental damage.
– Oil, grease, filters, fuel, cleaners, brake fluid, etc., should be disposed of as stipulated in applicable regulations.

Drain the engine oil only when the engine is warm.
Preliminary work

– Remove the engine guard. ( p. 53)
– Park the motorcycle on a level surface.

Main work
– Place a suitable container under the engine.
– Remove oil drain plug 1 with the magnet and seal ring.
– Remove screw plug 2 with the short oil screen.
