Apowerbuttonproblem
Problem:Thesystemdoesnotrespond,andyoucannotturnoffthecomputer.
Solution:Turnoffthecomputerbypressingandholdingthepowerbuttonfor4secondsormore.Ifthe
computerstilldoesnotrespond,removetheacpoweradapterandresetthecomputerbyinsertinga
straightenedpaperclipintotheemergencyresetholetoturnoffthecomputer.
Startupproblems
Printtheseinstructionsnowandkeepthemwithyourcomputerforreferencelater.
Ifyoureceiveanerrormessagebeforetheoperatingsystemloads,checkthefollowingitem:
FollowtheappropriatecorrectiveactionsforPower-onself-testerrormessages.
Ifyoureceiveanerrormessagewhiletheoperatingsystemisloadingthedesktopcongurationafterthe
POSTiscompleted,checkthefollowingitems:
1.VisittheLenovoSupportWebsiteathttp://www.lenovo.com/supportandsearchfortheerrormessage.
2.VisittheMicrosoftKnowledgeBasehomepageathttp://support.microsoft.com/andsearchforthe
errormessage.
Sleep(standby)andhibernationproblems
Problem:Thecomputerenterssleep(standby)modeunexpectedly.
Solution:Iftheprocessoroverheats,thecomputerautomaticallyentersleep(standby)modetoallow
thecomputertocoolandtoprotecttheprocessorandotherinternalcomponents.Checkthesettings
forsleep(standby)mode,usingPowerManager.
Problem:Thecomputerenterssleep(standby)mode(thesleep/standbyindicatorturnson)immediately
afterPower-onself-test.
Solution:Makesurethat:
Thebatteryischarged.
Theoperatingtemperatureiswithintheacceptablerange.Referto“Features”onpage12,
“Specications”onpage13,and“Operatingenvironment”onpage14.
Ifthebatteryischargedandthetemperatureiswithinrange,havethecomputerserviced.
Problem:Thecriticallow-batteryerrormessageappears,andthecomputerimmediatelyturnsoff.
Solution:Thebatterypowerisgettinglow.Connecttheacpoweradaptertothecomputerandplugit
intoanelectricaloutlet.
Problem:ThecomputerdisplayremainsblankafteryoupressFntoreturnfromsleep(standby)mode.
Solution:Checkwhetheranexternalmonitorwasdisconnectedorturnedoffwhilethecomputerwas
insleep(standby)mode.Ifyoudisconnectedorturnedofftheexternalmonitor,connectitorturniton
beforeresumingthecomputerfromthesleep(standby)mode.Whenresumingthecomputerfromthe
sleep(standby)modewithoutattachingtheexternalmonitororturningiton,andthecomputerdisplay
remainsblank,pressFn+F7tobringupthecomputerdisplay.
Note:IfyouareusingFn+F7toapplyapresentationscheme,youwillneedtopressFn+F7atleastthree
timesinthreesecondstobringupthecomputerdisplay.
Note:IfyourcomputerisaWindows7model,itdoesnotsupportthepresentationscheme.
Problem:Thecomputerdoesnotreturnfromsleep(standby)mode,orthesleep(standby)indicatorstays
onandthecomputerdoesnotwork.
