1.4 BATTERY TESTING CHARTS
Step 1.
VISUAL INSPECTION
Check for obvious damage such as cracked or
broken case that shows loss of electrolyte,thermal
damage,etc.
Obvious damage No obvious damage
Replace battery Check electrolyte level
Electrolyte level is below top of
plates in one or more cells
Electrolyte level is above top of
plates in all cells
-proceed to step 2
Add water up to just above separators.
Charge for 15min.with 15.25 amp
Hydrometer test
Step 2
50 points or more variation
between highest and lowest cell
Less than 50 points variation
between highest and lowest cell
Recharge battery and if 50 points
variation persists,replace battery
Specific gravity:Below 1.225
Charge until all cells are at least
1.225
Specific gravity 1.225 or above
Turn on head lamps (or 15-A
load)for 15seconds
Proceed to step 3
Turn on head lamps (or 15-A
load)for 15seconds
Proceed to step 3
