16.10 Removing Exhaust Gases from the System
WARNING
Anesthetics: When using the Sidestream or Microstream CO
2
measurement on patients who are receiving or
have recently received anesthetics, connect the outlet to a scavenging system, or to the anesthesia
machine/ventilator, to avoid exposing medical staff to anesthetics.
To remove the sample gas to a scavenging system, connect an exhaust tube to the gas outlet connector of the module.
16.11 Zeroing the Sensor
Zero calibration eliminates the effect of baseline drift during CO
2
measurement exerted on the readings and therefore
maintains the accuracy of the CO
2
measurements.
For sidestream and microstream CO
2
modules, a zero calibration is carried out automatically when necessary. You can
also start a manual zero calibration if necessary.
To manually start a zero calibration:
1. Select [Main Menu]→[Maintenance >>]→[User Maintenance >>]→enter the required password→[Maintain
CO2 >>].
2. Select [Calibrate CO2 >>]→[Start Zero Cal.].
Disconnecting the patient airway is not required when performing a zero calibration.
WARNING
Do not rely on the readings during zeroing.
