VALVE CLEARANCE - SOHC
NOTICE
Valve clearance inspection should be performed on a
cold engine, at room temperature.
1. Tilt the cargo box.
2. Remove the PVT cover to access the drive clutch.
3. Remove the rocker cover bolts
q
, cover
w
and
gasket.
NOTICE
It may be necessary to tap the cover lightly with a soft-
faced hammer to loosen it from the cylinder head.
4. Use drive clutch to rotate the crankshaft until the cam
chain sprocket timing marks are aligned with the
gasket surface as shown.
5. Measure the valve clearance of each valve using a
feeler gauge. Record the measurement if clearance is
out of specification.
MEASUREMENT
Intake Valve Clearance:
0.006 ± 0.002" (0.152 ± 0.051 mm)
Exhaust Valve Clearance:
0.010 ± 0.002" (0.254 ± 0.051 mm)
6. Record the results of each measurement for future
reference.
7. Reinstall all components that were removed.

VALVE CLEARANCE - DOHC
Inspect and adjust valve clearance while the engine is
cold and the piston positioned at Top Dead Center (TDC)
on compression stroke.
1. Tilt the cargo box.
2. Remove the spark plug high tension lead
q
and
remove the spark plug
w
. CAUTION: Place a clean
shop towel into the spark plug cavity to prevent dirt
from entering.
3. Remove the valve cover bolts
e

and
gasket.
NOTICE
It may be necessary to tap the cover lightly with a soft-
faced hammer to loosen it from the cylinder head.
NOTICE
Isolators must be replaced after each use.
4. Remove the PVT cover to access the drive clutch.
