5.1Generallocationrequirements
Whenselectingalocationfortheunititisimportanttoconsidera
numberoffactors.
AntennamountingandEMEexposure
Ensurethattheantennaisconnectedtotheradiobefore
transmission.
RaymarinedeclaresaMaximumPermissibleExposure(MPE)
radiusof1.5metres(4.9ft)(perOETBulletin65)forthissystem,
assuming25wattsoutputtoanomnidirectionalantennaof3dBi
gainorless.
Forwatercraftwithsuitablestructures,theantennabasemust
beatleast3.5metres(11.5ft)abovethemaindecktomeet
theMPEforpersonsupto2metres(6.6ft)tall.Forwatercraft
withoutsuchstructures,theantennamustbemountedsothat
itsbaseisaminimumof1.5metres(4.9ft)verticallyfromheads
ofallpersons.
Theantennamustbeisolatedfromthevessel’smetalworkusing
aninsulated(e.g.plastic)mountingbracket.
Compasssafedistance
Topreventpotentialinterferencewiththevessel'smagnetic
compasses,ensureanadequatedistanceismaintainedfrom
theproduct.
Whenchoosingasuitablelocationfortheproductyoushould
aimtomaintainthemaximumpossibledistancefromany
compasses.Typicallythisdistanceshouldbeatleast1m(3ft)
inalldirections.Howeverforsomesmallervesselsitmaynot
bepossibletolocatetheproductthisfarawayfromacompass.
Inthissituation,whenchoosingtheinstallationlocationforyour
product,ensurethatthecompassisnotaffectedbytheproduct
whenitisinapoweredstate.
Ventilationrequirements
Toprovideadequateairow:
Ensurethatequipmentismountedinacompartmentof
suitablesize.
Ensurethatventilationholesarenotobstructed.
Ensureadequateseparationofequipment.
Mountingsurfacerequirements
Ensureunitsareadequatelysupportedonasecuresurface.Do
NOTmountunitsorcutholesinplaceswhichmaydamagethe
structureofthevessel.
Cableroutingrequirements
Ensuretheunitismountedinalocationwhichallowsproper
routingandconnectionofcables:
Minimumcablebendradiusof100mm(3.94in)isrequired
unlessotherwisestated.
Usecablesupportstopreventstressonconnectors.
Wateringress
Basestation
AlthoughthebasestationiswaterprooftoIPX6standard,itis
recommendedthatthebasestationbemountedbelowdecks,
inanareaprotectedfromprolongedanddirectexposuretorain
andsaltspray.
Handsetandspeakers
Thehandsets,passivespeakers,andactivespeakersare
waterprooftoIPX7andcanbemountedaboveorbelowdecks.
Althoughtheunitiswaterproof,itisgoodpracticetolocateitin
anareaprotectedfromprolongedanddirectexposuretorain
andsaltspray.
Electricalinterference
Selectalocationthatisfarenoughawayfromdevicesthat
maycauseinterference,suchasmotors,generatorsandradio
transmitters/receivers.
Powersupply
Selectalocationthatisascloseaspossibletothevessel’sDC
powersupply.Thiswillhelptokeepcablerunstoaminimum.
