Receivingadistresscall
ItisexpectedthatonlyaCoastRadioStation(CRS)will
acknowledgeDSCdistresscallsandwillactasthecoordinator
fortherescueoperation.
Whenadistresscallisreceivedanalarmissoundedatfull
volumeandtheLCDdisplaysinformationpagesrelatingtothe
distress.Thisincludes:
MMSIorNameofvessel(Nameofdistressedvesselisonly
displayedifitisacontactsavedinthephonebook).
Natureofdistress.
Latitudeandlongitudeofdistressedvessel.
Timeofdistresscall.

WhenthereceiveddistresscallisacknowledgedbytheCRSor
anotherstationthentheradiowillresumenormaloperation.
Acceptingadistresscall
Toacceptthedistresscallfollowthestepsbelow.
Withanactivedistresscalldisplayed.
1.WithAutochannelchangeturnedonSelectOK.
Thealarmismuted,theenvelopeiconisturnedoffandthe
radiowillswitchtochannel16.
2.WithAutochannelchangeturnedoffSelectOKtomutethe
alarmandturnofftheenvelopeicon.SelectOKagainto
acceptthechannelchangetochannel16.
Mutingadistresscall
Youcanignoreadistresscallbymutingthealarmandcancelling
thedistresscallscreen.
Withanactivedistresscalldisplayed.
1.PresstheClearbuttontomutethealarm.
2.PresstheClearbuttonagaintocancelthedistresscall
screen.
Theenvelopeiconwillbeturnedoffandnormaloperationis
resumed.
Acknowledgingadistresscall
Distresscallsmustonlybeacknowledgedifthecallcontinues
withoutacknowledgementfromaCRS,youarecloseenough
tothedistressedvesseltobeofassistanceandareprepared
torelaythedistresstoaCRSbyanymeanspossible.ClassD
DSCradiosareforbiddenfromautomaticallyacknowledging
distresscalls.Acknowledgementmustonlybemadebyvoice
messageonchannel16.
Afterreceivingadistresscallthathasgoneunanswered:
1.Switchtochannel16tolistenforthedistressvoicemessage.
2.WaitfortheCRStoacknowledgethecall.
3.Ifthedistresscallisnotacknowledgedbyanotherstation
thenacknowledgethecallasfollows:

Manuallyrelayingadistresscall
Adistressrelayshouldonlybesentif:thepersonorvehiclein
distressisunabletotransmitthedistresscallitself,forexample
redaressightedatnightorthepersonorvehicleindistress
isoutofrangeofaCRSandyouhavealreadyacknowledged
thedistressbyvoicemessage.Youcanalsorelayareceived
distressrelayalertmanuallyifitgoesunanswered.

Theradiocannotre-sendadistressrelayautomatically.If
requiredyoucanrelayadistressrelaymessagemanually.
Ifadistressrelayissentspecicallytotheradiothenitcanbe
acknowledged,otherwiseacknowledgementisnotrequired.
