These operating instructions will help you to install and connect devices of the SCALANCE
XR-500 product group.
The con󹪝guration and the integration of the devices in a network are not described in these
operating instructions.
1.1 Purpose
The SCALANCE XR-500 switches are high-performance and industry-compatible Layer3
switches for setting up electrical and optical line, ring and star structures with transmission rates
of up to 10Gbps and are intended for installation in 19" cabinets.
SCALANCE XR-500 switches are ideal for use in industrial networks and for integrating the
plant network in an existing enterprise network. From the control level to the management
level, the Layer3 switches handle the networking of both plant sections and distributed 󹪝eld
devices and ensures high plant availability with wide-ranging diagnostics options and high
transmission speeds.
SCALANCEXR-500 devices can be used as both switches and routers. You link the industrial
backbone layer and the enterprise network to one another in this way thanks to IP routing.
