The black and white images
The HI-CAT black and white image 7 differs from the standard black and white image only in one point: the
highest absorption level is displayed in red. The HI-CAT black and white image 8 does not differ from the
standard black and white image. However, both images can be manipulated with the function VARI-CAT as
described in the following.

The function VARI-CAT
For HI-CAT images you can steplessly select different assignments between absorption and colors or grey
levels. The detectability of small details is thus selectively increased, finest object structures become clearly
visible.
For the HI-CAT black and white images the direct relation between absorption and grey levels is canceled.
Very similar absorption degrees are displayed in greatly varying colors or grey levels.
Concentrate on the object detail to be examined. By alternately pressing
v to the left and right, you
can steplessly adapt the image display to the scanned object until the detectability of details has been op-
timized.
