In the event of a lubrication fault, the followina causes have been listed to assist
In
-
diagnosing trouble:-
OIL
TANK
The level in the oil tank should be
I+"
(4
cms.) below the filler cap. Further
a.
addition of oil will cause excessive venting info the primary chaincase due to lack
of air space. Always ensure rhat the vent pipe
is
clear as any obstruction wiil cause
a back pressure in the oil tank, which in turn wiil prevent adequate scavenging by
the oil pump, resulting in an oil flooded crankcase.
OIL
PUMP
The only part likely to show wear after a considerable mileage
is
the oil pump block
which can be replaced very cheaply. The plungers and the pump body being con-
stantly immersed in oil, wear
is
negligible.
It
is
unnecessary therefore, to suspect
these parts if the lubrication
is
at
fault. Should the non-return valve balls not be
seating properly, the pump will not function satisfactorily. The remedy
is
to remove
the oil pump and unscrew the two plugs situated under the oil pump body to remove
the balls and springs.
All
parts should then be washed in petrol to remove any
foreign matter, and when replacing the balls they should be given a sharp tap onto
their seatings before re-assembly. Prime the pump with oil before fitting.
