Outboard Rigging Guide - 2001
SHIFT STROKE ADJUSTMENT
If the engine shift cable is over 12 feet in
length, it may be necessary to adjust the actu-
ator shift stroke travel to compensate for exces-
sive cable end play. Shift cable end play can be
measured by holding one end of the cable
while lightly pushing and pulling the opposite
end. If cable movement (end play) exceeds 15
mm (0.6 in), adjust actuator stroke as
described below.
1) Loosen the four screws securing the actu-
ator cover and remove the cover.
2) Move the emergency lever (red) fully in the
direction indicated by the arrow.
3) Move the adjusting pin and spacer of the
shift sensor lever from the hole M (the
standard location) to hole L (for longer
travel).
Do not use the pin location S (short travel).
This will result in travel less than standard
and may result in improper or incomplete
shifting.
NOTE:
Shift strokes at the holes are as shown below.
The values are valid only when the shift stroke
at junction unit is 70 mm (2.76 in.).
4) Return the emergency lever to its home
position.
CAUTION:
