Your insulin pump can be used with 3.0 ml glass cartridges. In order to fill a 3.0 ml
glass cartridge you need to first fill a 3.15 ml plastic cartridge and then inject the in-
sulin from the plastic cartridge into the glass cartridge. The following instructions
guide you through the steps involved in this process. Always consult the instructions
for use included with your cartridge filling set.
Note that your insulin pump may be used with pre-filled 3.0 ml Humalog
®
* pen car-
tridges and/or user-filled 3.0 ml glass cartridges with rubber membrane only. Your in-
sulin pump is not guaranteed for use with any other cartridges.
The CombiFill filling aid can be used to help you to fill an empty 3.0 ml glass cartridge
from your vial of insulin.
Please refer to section 4.1 “Fill the cartridge” for further information.
4.1 Fill the cartridge
Caution: Air bubbles in the cartridge, adapter and in the infusion set
cause the infusion of air instead of insulin.Your body does not receive the
required amount of insulin. An “Error E4: Occlusion” may be delayed.
Remove these bubbles while filling the cartridge and/or priming the infu-
sion set. Make sure the infusion set is not connected to your body. Cold
insulin may release air when warmed. Use only insulin at room tempera-
ture when filling the cartridge and priming the infusion set.
Inspect the cartridge, adapter and the infusion set for air bubbles at least
every three hours during the day and before you go to sleep. Remove any
air bubbles and, if necessary, change system components.
A cartridge filling set consists of the following items:
1. 3.15 ml plastic cartridge with protective cap
and plunger rod
* Pre-filled 3.0 ml Humalog
®
pen cartridges are manufactured by Eli Lilly.
