5.3 Change the cartridge, adapter and infusion set
Warning: Never change the cartridge or prime the infusion set with an
infusion set inserted into your body. You risk uncontrolled insulin
delivery. With disconnectable infusion sets, make sure you have
disconnected prior to changing or priming.
Always follow the instructions for use of the infusion set you are using.
Caution: Air bubbles in the cartridge, the adapter and in the infusion
set cause the infusion of air instead of insulin. Your body does not receive
the required amount of insulin. An “Error E4: Occlusion” may be delayed.
Remove these bubbles while filling the cartridge and/or priming the infu-
sion set. Make sure the infusion set is not connected to your body.
Cold insulin may release air when warmed. Use only insulin at room tem-
perature when filling the cartridge and priming the infusion set.
Inspect the cartridge, adapter and the infusion set for air bubbles at least
every three hours during the day and before you go to sleep. Remove any
air bubbles and, if necessary, change system components.
Caution: Always handle the items with clean hands. To make sure that the
cartridge compartment is always clean, change the cartridge and adapter
in clean environment and check always that the cartridge compartment is
free of any dirty particles. Avoid your insulin pump, the infusion set and es-
pecially the connecting parts of your insulin pump coming into contact
with health and beauty items (e.g. antiseptics, antibiotic creams, soaps,
perfumes, deodorants, body lotions or any other cosmetics). They may
cause damage to these parts.
