Insulin pump or

Suggested actions
Change your infusion set and site.
Tug on the connections to check security.
Inspect for wetness due to leaking insulin.
Check your blood glucose level.
Replace the cartridge. Cartridges are for single
use only. Do not reuse.
Always prime until insulin emerges from the
end of the tubing and the tubing is free of air.
The correct hourly basal rate can not be delivered
if the time is incorrect. Check the time on regular
basis and when replacing the PowerPack.
Always review any changes made in basal rate
programming. Check with your health care team
about possible rate adjustment.
Disconnect and prime your infusion set to
remove air or replace the cartridge and prime
again. Make sure all connections are secure.
Look and feel for wetness due to leaking insulin
at all connections and on the skin.
Change your infusion set, site, cartridge and
adapter.
Choose infusion sites without scar tissue, bruises,
or tissue build-up. Do not use an infusion set or
infusion site longer than recommended.
Insulin causes
Forgotten meal bolus or bolus
taken too long after a meal
Ineffective or expired insulin
Mismatch of insulin with food
Suggested actions
Check the bolus history to confirm a missing
bolus. Time the meal bolus according to the onset
of insulin action or according to your health care
team’s recommendations.
Check the expiration date of the insulin.
Store filled cartridges or vials according to the
instruction for use provided by your insulin
manufacturer. Short-acting insulin U100 and
fast-acting U100 insulin analogues should
appear clear upon inspection. If you do not use
pre-filled cartridges, use a new vial of insulin.
Review the bolus amount in the bolus history
and re-evaluate. Consult your health care team
for adjustment of your insulin/carbohydrate
ratio if necessary.
