Personal Settings
Settings are values like your hourly basal rate, your basal rate profile, the actual time
and date, boluses, temporary basal rates, etc. which can be programmed on your
insulin pump.
Standard configuration
Your insulin pump is provided with a standard configuration (factory setting). This
configuration can be adapted to your individual needs directly on your insulin pump
or using the Accu-Chek DiaLog Pump Programming tool.
Subcutaneous tissue
The tissue immediately under the skin. The area into which the needle or cannula of
the infusion set is inserted and the insulin administered.
Temporary basal rate
Temporary increase or decrease of your basal rate profile in percentages from
0–200% to match changing insulin needs due to increased or decreased activity
level, illness or stress.
Type 1 diabetes
A condition characterized by high blood glucose levels caused by a total lack of in-
sulin. In type 1 diabetes most of the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas are
destroyed. The pancreas then produces little or no insulin and an insulin therapy is
required from the onset of the disease.Type 1 diabetes develops most often in young
people but can appear in adults.
Type 2 diabetes
A condition characterized by high blood glucose levels caused by either a lack of
insulin or the body’s inability to use insulin efficiently. This type of diabetes can be
controlled in many cases by diet, physical exercise and/or oral antidiabetics and usu-
ally an insulin therapy is not needed initially. Type 2 diabetes develops most often in
middle-aged and older adults but can appear in young people.
U100
Insulin concentration. Each milliliter of liquid contains 100 units of insulin. Your
Accu-Chek D-TRONplus insulin pump is intended for the use of short-acting insulin
U100 and fast-acting U100 insulin analogue only.
Insulin, short-acting (regular insulin)
Human insulin produced using recombinant DNA technology. The onset time of re-
gular insulin is 30 to 45 minutes.
I.U.
Insulin Unit. Also refered to as “International Unit”.
Luer connection
A standardized fitting at the end of the infusion set and the adapter which allows
them to be locked together without leaking.
Operating status (STOP/RUN)
The operating status of your insulin pump may be either STOP (NO insulin delivery)
or RUN (insulin delivery).
Parameter
The parameters of your insulin pump (active basal rate profile, prime quantity, maxi-
mum bolus amount per delivery and the like) are set by the manufacturer. All pa-
rameters together build the standard configuration of your insulin pump. These
parameters can be changed on your insulin pump or on a personal computer using
the Accu-Chek DiaLog Pump Programming tool.
PowerPack
A specially designed 3V lithium PowerPack provides your insulin pump with energy.
A built-in membrane in the PowerPack cover equalizes the pressure between the out-
side and the inside of your insulin pump. The integrated seal ring forms an efficient
seal for the PowerPack compartment.
PowerPack compartment
The opening in your insulin pump for the PowerPack.
Scrolling
In order to enter larger values, a key must normally be pressed several times. How-
ever, in certain situations, you can hold the key pressed (scroll) until the desired
value is reached. This allows a fast and easy programming of larger values.
