4 Introduction
Alternatively, a four-slot chassis may be added to the end of any eight-slot chassis so long
as the four chassis limit is not exceeded; this allows for configurations of 11, 19, or 27 I/O
slots for a single RTU.
1.4 Central Processing Unit (CPU)
The RTU’s CPU is a Freescale (NXP) SoloX dual-core architecture processor with an Arm
®
Cortex
®-
A9 core, and an Arm Cortex-M4 core. If your RTU includes multiple chassis, there
is still only one CPU module in the first slot of the first chassis; all other chassis hold only
I/O modules.
There are two CPU versions available:
3CPU16 – FB3000 RTU with full control and I/O capabilities
3IOCPU – FBxRemote I/O for I/O only with no control, no calculation support, and no
application support.
1.5 Memory
The RTU includes both static and flash memory.
Table 1-1. Memory
Firmware image and report files; with 104 MB reserved for
file system and 128 MB available for database and history
Historical data logs and configuration
Firmware execution and execution memory
1.6 I/O
Other than slot 1 in the base chassis (which is reserved for the CPU), any slot can contain
an I/O module, however, not all I/O slots support all I/O module types.
1.6.1 Example – 12 Channel Mixed I/O Module
(3MIX12/3MSG12)
I/O is configured within FBxConnect software.
For example, each 12-channel Mixed I/O module (labelled 3MIX12) supports the following
inputs/outputs:
Eight (8) input channels that you can individually configure using FBxConnect as analog
inputs (AI), digital inputs (DI), or pulse inputs (PI).
