2.8 GIGABIT NETWORK
2.8.1 FUNCTIONAL OVERVIEW
The Gigabit connection makes it possible to transfer video and audio material from
the XT2+ servers to external systems via the TCP/IP network.
The external systems can be the following:
A storage system or an archiving system, such as XStore or XFile2 or XF2.
A non-linear Editing system, such as Xedio, Apple Final Cut Pro or Avid.
However, the external systems cannot read the raw files coming from the XT2+
servers. For this reason, XTAccess is used as a “gateway” between the XT2+ and
the IT world. It takes up the role of gateway used so far by XFile/XStream as it
creates file formats compliant with external systems.
XTAccess is directly connected to the XT2+ servers through the Gigabit network
via an FTP client. It runs on an XP workstation and is mainly controlled by the
external systems (no user interface) via XML files or other processes.
The Gigabit connection fulfills the following functions in relation with the XT2+
servers:
Backup of clips from an XT2+ server
Restore of clips to an XT2+ server
