FLYWHEEL BRAKE SHOE CHECK
Remove the fan cover (page 5-3).
Measure the thickness of the brake shoe lining [1].
If the brake shoe lining thickness is less than the
service limit, replace the brake assembly (page 8-3).
FLYWHEEL BRAKE CABLE CHECK/
ADJUSTMENT
No adjustment required.
Start the engine outdoors.
Release the flywheel brake lever.
The engine should stop within 3 seconds.
If the flywheel brake does not operate properly, perform
the flywheel brake troubleshooting (base shop manual
62VH300 page 4-4).
VALVE CLEARANCE CHECK/
ADJUSTMENT
• Valve clearance inspection and adjustment must be
performed with the engine cold.
CHECK
Remove the following:
– Recoil starter (page 7-2)
– Cylinder head cover (page 10-4)
Using too much force can deform the cylinder head
cover. The cylinder head cover must be replaced if it is
deformed.
Rotate the flywheel clockwise until the magnet inside
the flywheel [1] heads the direction of the cylinder head.
If it is hard to rotate the flywheel, remove the spark plug.
This will set the piston at near the top dead center of the
compression stroke (both valves are fully closed).
