Idler Wheel and Recoil Unit

Recoil Unit - Removal and Replacement
Removal
1 Remove the track K Track Removal and
Replacement ( T J-6).
2 Withdraw the idler wheel and recoil unit assembly
from the undercarriage frame.
3 Separate the recoil unit from the idler wheel side bars
C by unscrewing bolts B.
!MWARNING
The recoil unit spring can cause serious injury if
suddenly released. Take great care when removing
and replacing the spring retaining nut.
Scrap recoil units must be dismantled before transfer
from the workshop
Do not use flame cutting equipment unless
precautions are taken to release the spring pressure
slowly.

Replacement
1 Assemble the recoil unit to the idler wheel side bars
C. Fit and tighten bolts B.
2 Slide the complete assembly into the undercarriage
frame.
3 Refit the track and adjust the track tension K

Idler Wheel - Removal and Replacement
Removal
1 Remove the track K Track Removal and
Replacement ( T J-6).
2 Remove the idler wheel and recoil unit assembly from
the undercarriage frame.
3 Separate the recoil unit from the idler wheel side bars
C by unscrewing bolts B.
4 Drive out the two roll pins D and remove the side bars
C from the idler assembly.
Replacement
1 Assemble the idler side bars C to the idler spindle
taking care to align the roll pin holes. Fit the roll pins
D.
2 Assemble the recoil unit to the idler wheel side bars
C. Fit and tighten bolts B.
3 Slide the complete assembly into the undercarriage
frame.
4 Refit the track and adjust the track tension K
