Spark Plug
Honda Petrol Engine
To maintain an efficient engine, the spark plug should be
visually checked at regular intervals. It should be
discarded and replaced if there is any sign of apparent
wear or if the insulator is cracked or chipped.
Open the engine cover (if fitted).
Remove the spark plug. Measure the plug gap with a feeler
gauge. Correct as necessary by carefully adjusting the
side electrode. The gap should be 0.70 - 0.80 mm (0.028 -
0.031 in.).
Removing a spark plug. Remove all debris from around
the base of the plug to prevent it entering the engine when
the plug is removed. Unscrew the plug using a plug
spanner or suitable wrench.
Installing a new spark plug. Thread the plug in by hand
to prevent cross threading. When the plug has seated on
the cylinder head, tighten with a spark plug spanner a
further one half turn to compress the washer.
Note: When installing a used spark plug, follow the
procedure for a new plug but compress the washer by a
quarter turn only.
