TOWING 2
WHEN TOWING
Serious injury or death could result if a disabled machine is towed incorrectly or if there is a mistake in the selec-
tion or inspection of the wire rope.
For towing method, see section “MACHINE TOWING METHOD (3-132)“.
q Always wear leather gloves when handling wire rope.
q Connect a wire rope to the part indicated with the arrow in
the diagram at right.
q During the towing operation, never stand between the tow-
ing machine and the machine being towed.
q Never tow a machine on a slope.
q Never use a wire rope which has cut strands (A), reduced
diameter (B), or kinks (C). There is danger that the rope
may break during the towing operation.
q If the engine stops or the oil pressure in the brake circuit drops because of trouble in the hydraulic system, the
brake is applied and the machine cannot move. To move the machine, it is necessary to use a special device
to raise the oil pressure in the brake circuit to the specified level and release the brake. For details of the
method of releasing the brake, see “MACHINE TOWING METHOD (3-132)“.
