OPERATION
TROUBLESHOOTING
TOWING THE MACHINE
WARNING
If the machine is towed in the wrong way, there is danger of an accident that could cause death or injury.
If any failure should occur in the engine or brake system, the brakes will not work, so be extremely careful.
If the steering and brakes on the machine being towed cannot be used, do not let anyone ride on it.
NOTICE
Towing of the machine is allowed only for moving it to a place where inspection and maintenance can be carried out, not for
moving it long distances.
Do not tow the machine for long distances.
If the machine has to be towed, please consult your Komatsu distributor.
This machine must not be towed except in emergencies. When towing the machine, take the following precautions.
When towing a machine, tow it at a low speed of less than 2 km/h (1.2 MPH), and for a distance of a few meters
to a place where repairs can be carried out. The machine should be towed only in emergencies. If the machine
must be moved long distances, use a transporter.
When towing a machine, avoid rough road surfaces and select a road that is as flat as possible.
When towing a machine, check that there is no one in the surrounding area.
Use a towing machine of the same class as the machine being towed.
Check that the towing machine has ample braking power, weight, and rimpull to allow it to control both machines
on slopes or on the tow road.
When towing, set the articulate lock of the towed machine to the LOCK position. However, when towing in places
where it is needed to steer, set the articulate lock to the FREE position. Use two towing machines of the same
class or larger than the machine being towed: connect one machine each to the front and rear of the machine
being towed.
Use the specified hook for both the towing machine and the machine being towed.
To protect the operator if the towing wire or towing bar breaks, install protective plates on both the towing machine
and the machine being towed.
There are towing hooks under the front frame and at the rear of the rear frame. Use only these hooks when
towing. Do not use any other place for towing.
Check that the towing wire or bar is of ample strength for the weight of the machine being towed. If the machine
being towed must travel through mud or up hills, use a tow wire or bar of ample strength for that purpose.
When fitting the towing wire, check the condition of the hook to make sure that there is no abnormality.
If the machine is moved suddenly, the towing wire or bar will be subjected to an excessive load, and it may break.
Start the machine gradually and travel at a constant speed.
Keep the angle of the towing wire as small as possible.
Keep the angle between the center lines of the two machines to within 30 degrees.
It is impossible to determine the drawbar pull needed for various conditions. The minimum drawbar pull may be
sufficient on horizontal, flat ground, but the maximum drawbar pull is needed on slopes or on rough roads.
Release the parking brake before towing the machine.
When releasing the parking brake, be sure to carry out the operation correctly.
Before releasing the parking brake, always set blocks under all four wheels. If the wheels are not blocked, there
is danger that the machine may move suddenly. Connect the towing wire or towing bar to the machine being
towed, take steps to prevent the machine from running away, then remove the blocks from under the wheels.
When releasing the parking brake, check first that the surrounding area is safe.
When the parking brake is released, the brakes cannot be used, so check carefully that the situation is safe.
