Usingrecoverymedia
Youcanuserecoverymediatorestorethecomputertothefactorydefaultsettingsonly.Youcanuse
recoverymediatoputthecomputerinanoperationalstateafterallothermethodsofrecoveryhavefailed.
Attention:Whenyouuserecoverymediatorestorethecomputertothefactorydefaultsettings,allthefiles
currentlyonthesolid-statedrivewillbedeletedandreplacedbythefactorydefaultsettings.
TouserecoverymediaontheWindows7operatingsystem,dothefollowing:
1.Dependingonthetypeofyourrecoverymedia,connectthebootmedium(memorykeyorotherUSB
storagedevice)tothecomputer,orinsertthebootdiscintotheopticaldrive.
2.RepeatedlypressandreleasetheF12keywhenturningonthecomputer.WhentheBootMenuwindow
opens,releasetheF12key.
3.SelectthedesiredstartupdeviceandpressEnter.Therestoreprocessbegins.
4.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentocompletetheoperation.

1.Afterrestoringyourcomputertothefactorydefaultsettings,youmighthavetoreinstalldevicedrivers
forsomedevices.See“Reinstallingpreinstalledprogramsanddevicedrivers”onpage115.
2.SomecomputerscomewithMicrosoftOfficepreinstalled.Ifyouneedtorecoverorreinstallyour
MicrosoftOfficeprograms,youmustusetheMicrosoftOfficeCD.Thesediscsareprovidedonlywith
computerspreinstalledwithMicrosoftOffice.
Performingbackupandrecoveryoperations
TheRescueandRecoveryprogramenablesyoutobackupallyoursolid-statedrivecontentsincludingthe
operatingsystem,datafiles,softwareprograms,andpersonalsettings.Youcandesignatewherethe
RescueandRecoveryprogramstoresthebackup:
Inaprotectedareaofyoursolid-statedrive
OnanattachedexternalUSBharddiskdrive
Onanetworkdrive
Onrecordablediscs(arecordableopticaldriveisrequiredforthisoption)
Afteryouhavebackedupthecontentsonthesolid-statedrive,youcanrestorethecompletecontentsofthe
solid-statedrive,restoreonlytheselectedfiles,orrestoreonlytheWindowsoperatingsystemandprograms.
Performingabackupoperation
ToperformabackupoperationusingtheRescueandRecoveryprogramontheWindows7operating
system,dothefollowing:
1.FromtheWindowsdesktop,clickStartAllProgramsLenovoPCExperienceLenovoTools
EnhancedBackupandRestore.TheRescueandRecoveryprogramopens.
2.IntheRescueandRecoverymainwindow,clicktheLaunchadvancedRescueandRecoveryarrow.
3.ClickBackupyourharddriveandselectbackupoperationoptions.Then,followtheinstructionson
thescreentocompletethebackupoperation.
