Preparing the vehicle for a wheel change
Requirements:
R
The required tire-change tool is available. If
your vehicle is not equipped with the tire-
change tool kit, consult a qualified specialist
workshop to find out about suitable tools.
R
The vehicle is not on a slope.
R
The vehicle is on solid, non-slippery and level
ground.

Apply the electric parking brake manually.
#
Move the front wheels to the straight-ahead
position.

Vehicles with automatic transmission:
Shift into position j.
#
Switch off the engine.
#
Make sure that the engine cannot be started.
#
Place chocks or other suitable items under
the front and rear of the wheel that is diago‐
nally opposite the wheel you wish to change.

Remove the hub caps if necessary

Raise the vehicle (/ page 329).
Removing and installing hub caps
Requirements:

The vehicle is prepared for a wheel change
(/ page 329).
Plastic hub cap
#
To remove: turn the center cover of the hub
cap counter-clockwise and remove the hub
cap.
#
To install: make sure that the center cover
of the hub cap is turned counter-clockwise.
#
Position the hub cap and turn the center
cover clockwise until the hub cap engages
physically and audibly.
Raising the vehicle when changing a wheel
Requirements:

There are no persons in the vehicle.
R
The vehicle has been prepared for a wheel
change (/ page 329).
R
The hub caps have been removed
(/ page 329).
Important notes on using the jack:
R
Use only a vehicle-specific jack that has
been approved by Mercedes-Benz to raise
the vehicle.
R
The jack is only designed for raising and
holding the vehicle for a short time while a
wheel is being changed and not for mainte‐
nance work under the vehicle.
R
The jack must be placed on a firm, flat and
non-slip surface. If necessary, use a large,
flat, load-bearing, non-slip underlay.
R
The foot of the jack must be positioned verti‐
cally under the jack support point.
