FastIdleAdvance
Fastidleadvanceincreasesengineidlespeedforfaster
warm-uptooperatingtemperature.ThisoccurswhentheECM
monitorsEngineCoolantTemperature(ECT)sensorinputand
adjustsfuelinjectoroperationaccordingly.
LowidlespeedisincreasedproportionallywhentheECTis
below70°C(158°F)at700rpmtobelow-10°C(14°F)at875
rpmmaximum.
ServiceDiagnostics
TheElectronicServiceTool(EST)providesdiagnostic
informationusingtheJ1939datalink.
Faultsfromsensors,actuators,electroniccomponents,and
enginesystemsaredetectedbytheECM.Thefaultsare
accessedbytheESTthroughtheDiagnosticConnector,and
aredisplayedasDiagnosticTroubleCodes(DTCs)ontheEST.
EffectiveenginediagnosticsrequireandrelyonDTCs.Seethe
applicableEngineDiagnosticManual.
EngineOptionalFeatures
AirCompressor
Anaircompressorisavailableforapplicationsthatrequireair
brakesorairsuspension.Ahydraulicpowersteeringpumpcan
beusedwithorwithouttheaircompressor.
CoolantHeater
Acoolantheaterisavailabletoraisethetemperatureofthe
coolantsurroundingthecylindersforimprovedperformance
duringcoldweatherstartups.
CruiseControl
TheECMcontrolsthecruisecontrolfeature.Thecruisecontrol
systemfunctionssimilarlyforallelectronicengines.Maximum
andminimumallowablecruisecontrolspeedswillvarybasedon
application.Tooperatecruisecontrol,seeappropriateVehicle
OperatorManual.
EngineBrake
Anoptionalexhaustorenginebrakeisavailabletoaidinthe
decelerationrateofvehicles.Theexhaustandenginebrake
providesimprovedbrakingperformance.Theseoptionsare
mutuallyexclusiveandareavailableforallratings.
EngineFanControl
Theenginefancontrolcommandshigherairowthroughthe
radiatorwhentheAirConditioner(A/C)isonorwhenthecoolant
orinletairtemperaturegoesaboveasettemperature.
EngineWarningProtectionSystem(EWPS)
EWPSisdesignedtoprotecttheenginefromdamage
bymonitoringcriticalenginedatasuchasenginespeed,
temperature,oilpressure,andcoolantlevels.Thisfeaturewill
alerttheoperatorbyusingacombinationofvisualandaudible
warningswhencriticalengineparametershavebeenexceeded.
