8. Short Circuit Wire
The short circuit and ground wires
are combined with the throttle cable
to form a unit. If either is damaged,
a new throttle cable must be
installed.
8.1 Testing
If the spark plug, ignition lead and
spark plug boot are in order, check
the short circuit wire.
– Remove the shroud, b 7.2
: Disconnect flag terminal (1) of
the short circuit wire (2).
– Connect ohmmeter to ground
and short circuit wire's flag
terminal.
– Move slide control to "STOP-O".
The resistance measured must be
about 0 Ω. If it is much higher, the
reason is a break in the wire and the
throttle cable has to be replaced,
b 8.2, b 8.3.
– Move slide control to "F" – start
position.
The resistance measured must be
infinitely high. If not, install a new
throttle cable, b 8.2, b 8.3.

Perform the contact and continuity
test on the ground wire too.
If the ground wire is damaged, the
throttle cable has to be replaced,
b 8.2, b 8.3.
– If no fault can be found, check the
ignition system with the aid of the
troubleshooting chart, b 8.5
– Install in the reverse sequence.
8.2 Short Circuit Wire
on Engine
– Removing and
Installing
– Pull boot off the spark plug.
– Remove the shroud, b 7.2
– Remove the air filter cover.
: Take out the screws (1) and
remove the cover (2).
– Inspect the cover and push-on
nuts, replace if necessary.

: Turn throttle shaft lever (1) in
direction of full throttle and
disconnect the throttle cable (2).
: Pull the throttle cable (2) out of
the guides (arrows).
: Disconnect ground wire's flag
terminal (1) and short circuit
wire's flag terminal (2).
: Pull the ground and short circuit
wires, and protective tube (3) out
of the guides (arrows).
