Specifications
Table 39: AES au
dio outputs (Option AD)
Characteristic Performance requirement Reference information
Sources AES A or embedded.
Any audio source may be configured to
drive AES B ou
tputs but the outputs m ust be
driven from the currently selected source.
Number of Outputs Up to 8 Channels.
Output Format Meets Requirements of SMPTE 276M-1995
(AES 3-ID).
Output Connector BNC, terminated, unbalanced.
Output Impedance 75 Ω
Return loss, typical Typically better than 30 dB to 12 MHz.
Tested in input mode.
Output Amplitude Range 0.9 V to 1.1 V
p-p
into 75 Ω .
Output Sample Rate
Depends on source.
AES A Output sample rate is same as the
corre
sponding AES A input sample rate.
Analo
g (requires option AD or
higher)
Outpu
t sample rate is 48 kHz.
Embe
dded
Output sample rate is 48 kHz locked to
embedded audio sample rate.
Output Jitter (typical)
< 3.5 ns peak with 700 Hz high Pass as per
AES specification.
AES3 rev 1997 spec is 4.1 ns peak for
48 k
Hz audio.
Ris
e and Fall Time (typical)
37 n
s 10% to 90% as per SMPTE 276M.

Characteristic Performance requirement Reference information
Embedded Audio Detection
Identifies the presence or absence of up to
16 channels of Embedded digital audio. With
Simultaneous inputs or dual link formats,
16 channels of each selected SDI input are
monitored for presence.
Embedded Audio Formatting
For SD, 24-bit E mbedded audio is not
supported (no AUX bits are extracted) only
20 most signi ficant bits are extracted.
SD Extracts 20-bit audio formatted according
to SMPTE 272M operation Levels A and B
(48 kHz audio sampling rate synchronized
with video).
HD
Extracts 24-bit audio formatted according
to SMPTE 299M preferred implementation
(48 kHz audio sampling rate synchronized
with video).
