MAINTENANCE GUIDELINES
HOOK INSPECTION
The load line hook and safety latch must be inspected prior to any lifting operation. Any hooks showing
defects shall be discarded. Field repairs by welding or re-shaping shall not be permitted.
• Any damaged hook safety latch shall be replaced immediately.
• Any hook or fitting with a crack or distortion shall be removed from service immediately.
• Hook nut (if equipped) should be checked for corrosion or deformation.
• Refer to hook manufacturer for more specific inspection instructions.
If any of the above conditions are found it should be reported to a qualified person to determine if the items
should remain in service.
Also inspect the clevis, snatch blocks, and sheaves used to multi-part the load line for damaged, missing, or
worn components.
Hook latches are to be used only as retention devices to retain loose rigging under slack
conditions. They are not intended to be anti-fouling devices and caution must be
exercised to prevent a latch from supporting any portion of a load. Daily inspection of the
latch must be made to verify proper operating condition. If damage to the latch occurs,
the latch must be replaced immediately.
