OperatingtheMachine
•StarttheengineandrunitattheHALFIDLEposition
untilitwarmsup.Movetheengine-speedswitch
toHIGHIDLE,liftthemowerdecks,disengagethe
parkingbrake,presstheforwardtractionpedal,
andcarefullydrivetoanopenarea.
•Practicemovingforwardandreverse,andstarting
andstoppingthemachine.Tostopthemachine,
removeyourfootfromthetractionpedalandletit
returntoNEUTRALorpressdownonthereverse
pedal.
Note:Whengoingdownhillinthemachine,you
mayneedtousethereversepedaltostop.
•Whenpossible,mowupanddownhillsratherthan
acrossthem.Havethemowerdeckslowered
whengoingdownahilltomaintainsteeringcontrol.
Donotattempttoturnthemachineonahill.
•Practicedrivingaroundobstacleswiththemower
decksupanddown.Becarefulwhendriving
betweennarrowobjectssothatyoudonotdamage

toanother,raisethemowerdeckstothefully
upwardposition,shutoffthePTO,pressthe
mow/transportswitchtotheTRANSPORTposition,
andplacethethrottleintheFASTposition.
ChangingMowingPatterns
Changemowingpatternsoftentominimizeapoor
after-cutappearancefromrepeatedlymowinginthe
samedirection.
UnderstandingCounterbalance
Thecounterbalancesystemmaintainshydraulic
backpressureonthedeck-liftcylinders.This
pressureimprovestractionbytransferringthe
mower-deckweighttothemower-drivewheels.The
counterbalancepressurehasbeensetatthefactory
toanoptimalbalanceofafter-cutappearanceand
tractioncapabilityinmostturfconditions.
Decreasingthecounterbalancesettingcanproduce
amorestablemowerdeck,butcandecreasethe
tractioncapability.Increasingthecounterbalance
settingcanincreasethetractioncapability,butmay
resultinapoorafter-cutappearance.Refertothe

UsingProperMowingTechniques
•Tobegincutting,engagethemowerdecks,then
approachthemowingareaslowly.
•Toachievetheprofessionalstraight-linecutand
stripingthatisdesirableforsomeapplications,nd
atreeorotherobjectinthedistanceanddrive
straighttowardit.
•Assoonasthefrontmowerdecksreachtheedge
ofthemowingarea,performateardrop-shaped
turntoquicklylineupforyournextpass.
•Bolt-inmulchingbafesareavailableforthe
mowerdecks.Themulchingbafesperformwell
whenyoumaintainturfonaregularschedule
toavoidremovingmorethan25mm(1inch)of
growthpercutting.Whenyoucuttoomuchgrowth
withthemulchingbafesinstalled,theafter-cut
appearancemaydeteriorateandtheobserved
powertocuttheturfincreases.Themulching
bafesalsoperformwellforshreddingleavesin
thefall.
SelectingtheProperHeight-of-Cut
SettingtoSuitConditions
Removenomorethanapproximately1/3ofthegrass
bladewhencutting.Inexceptionallylushanddense
grass,youmayneedtoraiseyourheight-of-cut
setting.
