Theblade-drivebelt,tensionedbythespring-loaded
idlerpulley,isverydurable.However,aftermany
hoursofuse,thebeltwillshowsignsofwear.Signsof
awornbeltare:squealingwhenthebeltisrotating,
bladesslippingwhencuttinggrass,frayededges,
burnmarks,andcracks.Replacethebeltifanyof
theseconditionsareevident.
1.Lowerthemowerdecktotheshopoor,remove
thebeltcoversfromthetopofthemowerdeck,
andsetthecoversaside.
2.Loosentheeyebolt(Figure114).
3.Loosentheangenutsecuringthestopboltto
themountingtabandmovetheidlerpulleyaway
fromthebelt(Figure114).
Note:Loosenthenutenoughtoallowtheidler
armtopassthestopbolt.
Note:Ifyoumustremovethestopboltfromthe
mountingtab,installitintheholethatalignsthe
stop-boltheadwiththeidlerarm.
4.Removetheboltssecuringthehydraulicmotor
tothemowerdeck(Figure115).

5.Liftthemotoroffthemowerdeckandlayiton

6.Removetheoldbeltfromaroundthespindle
pulleysandidlerpulley.
7.Routethenewbeltaroundthespindlepulleys
andidler-pulleyassembly.
8.Positionthehydraulicmotoronthemowerdeck
afterroutingthebeltaroundthepulleys.Mount
themotortothemowerdeckwiththebolts
previouslyremoved.
Note:Ensurethatthebeltispositionedonthe
springsideofthebeltguide(Figure114).
9.Connecttheextensionspring(Figure114)tothe
eyeboltandtensionthebeltasfollows:
•Whenproperlytensioned,theinside
measurementoftheextensionspring(hook
tohook)shouldbeapproximately8.3to9.5
cm(3-1/4to3-3/4inch).
•Whenyouattainthecorrectspringtension,
adjustthestopbolt(carriagebolt)untilthere
isapproximately2to5mm(0.065to0.185
inches)clearancebetweentheheadofthe
boltandtheidlerarm.
