Troubleshooting
Emergency engagement of reverse gear
Twin Disc reverse gear MG514 is equipped as stan-
dard with a mechanical safety clutch for the “Forward”
and “Reverse” clutches. Only the clutch being used
for forward running is to be locked.
NOTE! If the boat has more than one control position,
it may be possible to control the reverse gear from
there.
Engaging
WARNING! Stop the engine before engaging!
Severe personal injuries can otherwise occur.
1. Unscrew the plugs on the cover of the “Forward”
clutch.
2. Rotate the propeller so that two of the lock screws
in the clutch are straight in front of the two plug
holes.
3. Tighten the screws alternately with a 3/16” Allen
key. Rotate the propeller shaft another 1/4 turn
and tighten the other two screws.
After engaging, the input and output shafts are
mechanically connected to each other and the re-
verse gear cannot be disengaged. The control arm
must absolutely be in position “Forward” while the
engine is running and the safety clutch is en-
gaged. The disc clutches will be damaged in any
other position.
Detach the control cable from the reverse gear as
a precaution.
4. Start and run at reduced speed.
