PowerFlex 527 AC Drive Specifications
Safe Torque-Off Function
The PowerFlex 527 Safe Torque-Off function, when used with other safety components, helps provide protection
according to EN ISO 13849 and EN62061 for safe-off and protection against restart. The PowerFlex 527 Safe Torque-Off
function is just one component in a safety control system. Components in the system must be chosen and applied
appropriately to achieve the desired level of operator safeguarding.
PowerFlex 527 Safe Torque-Off Overview
The PowerFlex 527 Safe Torque-Off function:
Provides the Safe Torque-Off (STO) function defined in EN IEC 61800-5-2.
Blocks gate-firing signals from reaching the Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) output devices of the drive.
This prevents the IGBTs from switching in the sequence necessary to generate torque in the motor.
Can be used in combination with other safety devices to fulfill the requirements of a system “safe torque off
function which satisfies Category 3 / PL (e) according to EN ISO 13849-1 and SIL CL3 according to EN/IEC
62061, IEC 61508, and EN/IEC 61800-5-2.
EC Type Examination Certification
V Rheinland has certified the PowerFlex 527 Safe Torque-Off function compliant with the requirements for machines
defined in Annex I of the EC Directive 2006/42/EC, and that it complies with the requirements of the relevant standards
listed below:
EN ISO 13849-1:2008+AC:2009 Safety of machinery – Safety related parts of control systems – Part 1: General
principles for design. (PowerFlex 527 STO achieves Category 3 / PL(e))
EN 61800-5-2:2007 Adjustable speed electrical power drive systems – Part 5-2 Safety requirements – Functional.
(PowerFlex 527 STO achieves SIL CL 3)
EN 62061:2005+A1:2013 Safety of machinery – Functional safety of safety-related electrical, electronic and
programmable electronic control systems.
