Trouble-shooting at electromagnetic components
Malfunction
Electromagnet does
not switch off engine
or vary engine speed.
Malfunction or failure
of other electrical or
electronic compo-
nents.
Starter motor does not
disengage.
Cause
Defective electromagnet (e.g. winding
burned out).
No power supply or open circuit.
Defective switch or relay.
Decoupling diode between generator
telltale light and terminal 15 is mis-
sing or defective (applies only to
shut-down solenoid with alternator).
Freewheel diode parallel to solenoid
is defecive.
Defective diode in shut-down
solenoid (lifting or servo solenoid).
Remedy
Renew electromagnet.
Check the circuit.
Renew defective component.
Check the circuit and install or
renew decoupling diode as neces-
sary.
Renew freewheel diode.
Renew solenois.
