INTRODUCTION
The winches for your Grenadier were designed, manufactured,
and tested by Red Winches Limited. They are for self-recovery
only. They must never be used for any other purpose, including
towing.
These winches must never be used without appropriate training
and instruction. You can get such instruction from many o-road
driving schools, clubs, and organizations, at events and
workshops, and from local authorities.
This section is a guide only and is not intended as a substitute for
proper training and instruction. This section cannot and does not
address all situations and all conditions that might arise. It is up to
the user to know the contents of this section and to use it and all
other available information to spot and react appropriately to
conditions then and there existing.
FRONT INTEGRATED HEAVY-DUTY WINCH (if equipped)
The Front Integrated Heavy-Duty Winch is located in the center of
the front bumper. It is rated to pull 12,000 lb. (5,500 kg.) .
Its xed components are a fairlead (1) which helps direct the
winch
rope onto the drum in a smooth and aligned manner. (The
drum is behind the fairlead). The winch rope is stored on the
drum and is routed through the fairlead for use. A freespool lever
(2) activates a clutch. When it is vertical, the clutch is engaged, and
the drum is held in place by the winch motor. When it is
horizontal, the clutch is disengaged, and the winch rope can be
