9. Remove the two-rear starter motor mount nuts
t
and
negative starter cable.
10.Remove the starter motor.
STARTER MOTOR / FLEX DRIVE
INSTALLATION
IMPORTANT
Disconnect battery before servicing starter motor
components. Always remove BLACK (-) battery cable
first, and then RED (+) cable. Reverse order during
battery installation.
The starter motor, flex drive, and pinion gear can be
serviced with the engine in the snowmobile.
1. During assembly, install the flex drive on to the pinion
assembly
q
and install into the engine mounting
location. Install the pinion assembly fasteners
w
and
torque to specification.
TORQUE
Pinion / Bracket Fasteners:
7 ft-lbs (10 N·m)
2. Loosely fit the gear clamp
e
around the starter motor
and place the starter motor back into the snowmobile.
3. Next, install the flex drive on to the starter motor
shaft.
4. Assemble the starter motor back onto the bracket as
shown in the image. Attach the black (-) battery
ground cable
e
to the post and install washer
r
and
lock nut
t
.
5. Attach the red (+) starter motor power cable
y
to the
post and install washer
r
and lock nut
t
.
6. Torque all nuts to specification.
TORQUE
Starter Motor / Clip Bracket Nuts:
8 ft-lbs (11 N·m)
Starter Motor Positive Cable Nut:
8 ft-lbs (11 N·m)
7. Tighten gear clamp but do not over-tighten / strip
teeth
8. Reinstall the following components:
• Y-pipe
• Drive clutch
• Oil tank / clutch guard
• Drive belt
9. Reconnect the battery power cable. Connect the red
(+) cable first, and then connect the black (-) cable.
10.Install the exhaust pipe and silencer.
11. Install the hood and side panels.
