Generallocationrequirements
WhenselectingalocationforyourAIS700itisimportanttoconsideranumberoffactors.
•W
ateringress—TheAIS700shouldbemountedbelowdecks.AlthoughtheAIS700iswaterproof,
itisgoodpracticetolocateitinaprotectedareaawayfromprolongedanddirectexposuretorain
andsaltspray.
•Ventilation—Toensureadequateairflow:
–EnsurethatAIS700ismountedinacompartmentofsuitablesize.
–Ensurethatventilationholesarenotobstructed.Allowadequateseparationofallequipment.
•Electricalinterference—Selectalocationthatisfarenoughawayfromdevicesthatmaycause
interference,suchasmotors,generatorsandradiotransmitters/receivers.
•Powersupply—Selectalocationthatisascloseaspossibletothevessel’sDCpowersource.
Thiswillhelptokeepcablerunstoaminimum.
•Diagnostics—TheAIS700mustbemountedinalocationwhereanydiagnosticsLEDsareeasily
visible.
•Mountingsurface—EnsuretheAIS700isadequatelysupportedonasecuresurface.Donot
mountunitsorcutholesinplaceswhichmaydamagethestructureofthevessel.
•Cabling—EnsuretheAIS700ismountedinalocationwhichallowsproperrouting,support
andconnectionofcables:
–Minimumbendradiusof100mm(3.94in)unlessotherwisestated.
–Usecableclipstopreventstressonconnectors.
–Ifyourinstallationrequiresmultipleferritestobeaddedtoacablethenadditionalcableclips
shouldbeusedtoensuretheextraweightofthecableissupported.
GNSSantennalocationrequirements
ThesuppliedGNSSantennamustbeinstalledinaccordancewiththeinstructionsprovided.DoNOT
connectanyotherGNSSantennaotherthanthatsupplied.
TheGNSSantennacanbemountedeitheronaflathorizontalsurfaceoronasuitablepole.
•Ifyouintendtosurfacemounttheantenna,ensureyouhaveaccesstotheundersideofthe
mountingsurface.
•Ifyouintendtopole-mounttheantenna,thepoleneedstohavea1inch14TPIthread.
Important:
TheGNSSantennamustbemountedinalocationthatprovidesagooddirectline-of-sightto
theentiresky ,aroundthehorizon.
Ensurethattheselectedmountinglocationis:
•Openandclearofanyobstructions(suchasmasts,searchlights,orotherstructures)thatcould
blockline-of-sighttothesky .
•Aslowaspossible,tokeeptheantennaasstableaspossible.Themorestabletheantenna,the
moreeffectivelyitwilltracksatellitesandprovidestabledata.
•Asfaraspossible(atleast1m(3ft))fromotherantennaeandelectronicequipment.
DoNOTmounttheantenna:
•Inanyareawhereitcouldbesteppedonortrippedover.
•Upamast.Thiswillcausetheantennatoswingandgivesignificanterrorsinpositiondata.
•InthedirectpathofaRadarbeam.
