Cabletypesandlength
Itisimportanttousecablesoftheappropriatetypeandlength.
•UnlessotherwisestatedonlyusecablessuppliedbyRaymarine.
•Whereitisnecessarytousenon-Raymarinecables,ensurethattheyareof
correctqualityandgaugefortheirintendedpurpose.(e.g.:longerpower

Cablerouting
Cablesmustberoutedcorrectly,tomaximizeperformanceandprolong
cablelife.
•DoNOTbendcablesexcessively.Whereverpossible,ensureaminimum
benddiameter(Ø)of200mm(7.87in)/minimumbendradius(R)of
100mm(3.94in).
•Protectallcablesfromphysicaldamageandexposuretoheat.Use
trunkingorconduitwherepossible.DoNOTruncablesthroughbilgesor

•Securecablesinplaceusingcableclipsorcableties.Coilanyexcess

•Whereacablepassesthroughanexposedbulkheadordeckhead,use
asuitablewatertightfeed-through.
•DoNOTruncablesneartoenginesorfluorescentlights.
•Alwaysroutedatacablesasfarawayaspossiblefrom:
–Otherequipmentandcables.
–HighcurrentcarryingACandDCpowerlines.
–Antennas.
Strainrelief
Useadequatestrainreliefforcablingtoensurethatconnectorsareprotected
fromstrainandwillnotpulloutunderextremeseaconditions.
Circuitisolation
AppropriatecircuitisolationisrequiredforinstallationsusingbothACand
DCcurrent:
•Alwaysuseisolatingtransformersoraseparatepower-invertertorunPCs,
processors,displaysandothersensitiveelectronicinstrumentsordevices.
•IfusingWeatherFAXaudiocables,alwaysuseanisolatingtransformer.
•Ifusingathird-partyaudioamplifier,alwaysuseanisolatedpowersupply.
•IfusinganRS232/NMEAconverter,alwaysensureopticalisolationon
thesignallines.
•AlwaysensurethatPCsorothersensitiveelectronicdeviceshavea
dedicatedpowercircuit.
Cableshielding
Ensurethatcableshieldingisnotdamagedduringinstallationandthatall
cablesareproperlyshielded.
