5–12 VENTILATION, HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING*
SUPPLEMENTARY HEATING DEVICE
(DIRECT INJECTION ENGINE
EQUIPPED VEHICLE)
• The DI engine equipped vehicle has the
supplementary heating devices to in-
crease the heating effect before the
engine coolant is fully heated.
The supplementary heating devices are
as follows:
- FFH (Fuel Fired Heater)
- PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient)
• PTC: Standard equipment, FFH: Optional
equipment
PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient)
This supplemeatary heater is an electrical air
heating type and installed on the heater out-
let port. This device improves the heating
effect by increasing the temperature of flow-
ing air into the passeger room.
This device is operational/non-operational
when the engine control unit supplies/cuts-
off the voltage to PTC according to the cool-
ant temperature and the ambient
temperature.
• Operational Condition
This device is activated when the tempera-
ture switch is at any position other than
“OFF” position and the coolant temperature
and the ambient temperature is within a
specified range.
• Non-operational Condition
- The temperature switch is at “OFF” po-
sition
- Defective ambient temperature sensor
- During engine cranking
- Too low battery voltage
- During pre-glowing process (indicator ON)
REPLACING AIR CONDITIONER
FILTER
Replace the air conditioner filter at every 10,
000 km of driving. However, if the vehicle is
operated under severe conditions such as
dusty road, unpaved rpad, and excessive
air conditioner and heater operation, shorten
the replacement interval.
If the air conditioner filter is
contaminated, cooling capacity is
decresed and unpleasant odor is
generated.
Replace the air conditioner filter
when
•
unpleasant odor is generated at
first operation after long unused
period.
•
cooling and blowing capacity are
decreased.
