Firmlyapplythebrakesanddrivethemachineat
mowingspeeduntilthebrakesarehot,asindicated
bytheirsmell.Youmayneedtoadjustthebrakes
afterthebreak-inperiod;refertoAdjustingtheBrakes
(page42).
AdjustingtheBrakes
Abrakeadjustmentrodislocatedoneachsideofthe
machinesothatyoucanadjustthebrakesequally.
1.Whilemovingforwardintransportspeed,press
thebrakepedal;bothwheelsshouldlockequally.
CAUTION
Testingthebrakesinaconnedarea
whereothersarepresentcouldcause
injury.
Alwayscheckthebrakesinawide,
open-spaced,atareafreefrompeople
andobstructionsbeforeandafterthe
adjustment.
2.Ifthebrakesdonotlockequally,adjustthe
brakesasfollows:
A.Disconnectthebrakerodsbyremovingthe
cotterpinandclevispin(Figure45).

pedal.Thereshouldbe13to26mm(1/2to
1inch)travelbeforethebrakeshoesmake
contactwiththebrakedrums.Adjust,if
necessary,toachievethissetting.
E.Whilemovingforwardintransportspeed,
pressthebrakepedal;bothbrakesshould
lockequally.Adjustthem,ifnecessary.
