5.2-6 Turnafork Arm Service
The Turnafork arm assemblies can be disassembled with
the attachment mounted on the truck.
1 Full extend the arm assemblies. Position the bottom of
the fork arm .25 in. (6 mm) above a pallet as shown.
2 Remove the front cover. For reassembly, tighten the
capscrews to a torque of 65–70 ft.-lbs. (80–95 Nm).
WARNING: Do not operate the arm
assembly on early style arms with the front
cover removed. If the arm assembly does
not have a snap ring retaining the bell
crank, it must not be operated. Early style
arms can be operated without the front
cover only if the fabricated bar (shown on
the following page) is installed.
WARNING: Keep fingers out from
under the fork arm while removing it
from the arm.
3 Remove the two springs from the selector plate pin.
4 Remove the snap ring retaining the bell crank, if
equipped. Remove the bell crank and springs.
5 Push the crank bar inward and remove the selector
plate.
6 Remove the twelve socket head capscrews retaining
the fork arm bearing. For reassembly, tighten the
capscrews to 120–130 ft.-lbs. (160–175 Nm).
7 Remove the fork arm and bearing from the arm
carrier by rotating and pulling forward on the
fork arm. The bearing has a pivot shaft on its
back side that must be pulled clear of the arm
carrier.
NOTE: The crank bar will be removed with the
fork arm.
8 Remove the detent pin, spring, bushing and
wear plate.
